The F-ing Application Process

There’s 1,000 ways to be professional, and 1,000,000 ways to say you’re capable of being a professional. Employers and recruiters spend an average of 6 seconds looking at your resume.

Neither your resume nor your cover letter get you jobs. The entire world is biased.

Who tells you that you have the most talent? Answer: friends, family, loved ones, etc..

Over 50% of the jobs I’ve held in the past 8 years have been through somebody I knew. The others were hard labor jobs…barely above minimum wage. In college, we have teachers showing us the importance of sculpting the perfect resume.  While it’s important to have a good resume and know how to write a cover letter, neither will get you a job. You might as well go deer hunting with a BB gun. Shoot as many deer as many times as you want but you’ll still go home starving.

Do yourself a favor: maintain a good work ethic, don’t ever give up, expect to be fed up with the whole damn system and just try to impress somebody.

More than half of people tell some kind of lie on their resume. Don’t be like the majority. Just tell the truth. THEY’RE NOT LOOKING THAT CLOSE ANYWAY.

Two Crows

Today I took some time between work and school, then work again, to simply admire the day.  I think we all need to find the time to do this. The result was this…

Two Crows

Two crows atop two buildings perch

Survey the earth below.

Neither stress nor worry for

The day about which they go.

They stand triumphant and satisfied

Exactly where they are.

How little they work to flap and fly

Their wings can take them far.

Their calls bounce from wall to wall

Amidst the city’s scape.

The crows are crowing for all to hear,

I sit on my porch and gawp.

I compare my life in buildings tall

I’d climbed without much ease,

And these two crows, with no sorrows

Have climbed much higher than me.

I wish that I could fly as high

And achieve all that they see.

Success for us lies in our work.

Success for them is free.

Coming to terms I can’t help but smile

At just how lucky they are.

To give me peace, a present free,

Without even working hard.

Playing this gives me “that feeling”
